Mage: The Ascension M20 character creator

Reality is contested. The Mage M20 wizard helps you define traditions, spheres, and the price of Awakening.

From concept to dossier PDF: a full M20 creation path in one tool.

Lore and chronicle tone

The Ascension war in a single soul

Mage: The Ascension is about belief made manifest: Technocrats, Traditions, Nephandi, and Orphans all claim different visions of what reality should become. Your mage Awakened when consensus cracked enough to let will reshape the world. Chronicle tone can be cosmic philosophy, street-level reality hacking, or paranoid conspiracy. The creator captures tradition, focus, and paradigm notes so your Storyteller knows how your magic looks and why it matters.

Spheres, paradigms, and vulgar versus coincidental

Spheres describe what a mage can touch: Forces, Life, Mind, Time, and others. How you apply them depends on paradigm and practice: a Hermetic ritual, a Virtual Adept hack, a Verbena charm. Vulgar magic draws Paradox; coincidental magic hides in probability. Document your approach in the wizard so the table shares expectations before a botched roll collapses a scene.

Chantry, consensual reality, and chronicle pressure

Mages rarely operate in vacuum. Chantries, mentors, rivals, and sleeper lives pull characters between wonder and responsibility. Backgrounds represent libraries, allies, arcane resources, and mortal ties. Use creation to list what your mage protects: and what enemies might target when the Ascension war turns personal.

Rules and creation flow

M20 wizard flow

Darkness Weaver guides you through attributes, abilities, spheres, backgrounds, and mage-specific details in M20 order. Sphere dots and specialty fields are validated against creation expectations. Pause anytime; local drafts persist, and cloud saves unlock cross-device editing for long campaigns.

Arete, Quintessence, and PDF sheets

Arete and Quintessence fields appear on the dossier alongside sphere ratings and rotes notes. When you export PDF, layout tracks M20 sheet structure for print or digital play. Update and re-export after XP awards or paradigm shifts.

Storyteller and player tips

Storyteller guidance

Session Zero: agree on paradigm flavor and Paradox severity. Have players export PDFs with sphere spreads visible. Encourage one sleeper tie and one Ascension faction opinion; they generate plot without extra prep.

Player guidance

Choose spheres that match concept, not only combat potential. Write how your magic looks coincidental in public scenes. Revisit the dossier when Arete rises: re-export keeps chronicle records accurate.
