Vampire: The Requiem clans guide
Clan is the most consequential Kindred choice in Vampire: The Requiem Second Edition. It sets your in-clan Disciplines, clan bane, and which Attribute receives a free favored dot. This guide compares all five playable clans before you open the character builder.
Five clans, three Disciplines each, and the personal horror that follows; a practical Session Zero reference.
Lore and chronicle tone
Why clan matters in the Requiem
Elders read clan before name. A Daeva neonate and a Mekhet neonate may share a covenant, but they answer different hungers and carry different marks of the Embrace. Chronicle tone often flows from clan mix: Nosferatu heavy tables lean surveillance and stigma, while Ventrue heavy courts lean patronage and refined feeding.
Covenant and bloodline
Covenants shape politics and sorcery access. Bloodlines can alter in-clan Discipline lists. Pick clan first for the curse you want, then covenant for the society that claims you, then bloodline only if the Storyteller opens that door.
Rules and creation flow
Favored Attributes and in-clan Disciplines
Each clan lists two favored Attributes; you choose one for a free +1 outside attribute pools. In-clan Disciplines cost less with experience and must receive at least two of your three creation Discipline dots. The Darkness Weaver wizard validates both rules.
Banes as scene generators
Requiem clan banes are ongoing curses: addictive blood, frenzy scars, weak Vitae, monstrous mien, or refined palate. Record the bane on the dossier so the Storyteller can call for scenes when the curse fits.
At a glance
Requiem clans at a glance
The five Kindred lineages in Vampire: The Requiem 2e, with in-clan Disciplines and a chronicle hook for each.
Daeva
Seductive predators who burn hot. Disciplines: Celerity, Majesty, Vigor. Favored Attributes: Presence or Dexterity. Bane: addictive blood and feeding urges that are hard to refuse. Ideal for socialites, stalkers, and Kindred who weaponize desire.
Gangrel
Beasts who wear the night. Disciplines: Animalism, Protean, Resilience. Favored Attributes: Composure or Stamina. Bane: the Beast leaves lasting physical marks after frenzy. Play survivors, wilderness hunters, and loners who trust teeth over titles.
Mekhet
Shadows who see too much. Disciplines: Auspex, Celerity, Obfuscate. Favored Attributes: Intelligence or Wits. Bane: weak blood; Vitae sustains them poorly. Spies, occultists, and investigators fit the clan.
Nosferatu
Monsters who own the undercity. Disciplines: Nightmare, Obfuscate, Vigor. Favored Attributes: Resolve or Strength. Bane: a monstrous mien that imposes social penalties. Information brokers, enforcers, and outcasts thrive here.
Ventrue
Lords of patronage and command. Disciplines: Animalism, Dominate, Resilience. Favored Attributes: Presence or Resolve. Bane: a refined palate that restricts prey. Aristocrats, executives, and princes-in-waiting anchor courts.
